There was man who was in bed, and as he lay comfortably, he heard his dog start to bark to the point that he would not stop barking. Little did this man know that the dog was barking because of an armed robber at the front door, who was trying to break into his house.
Instead of looking at the dog as his friend, the one who warned of the impending danger, he looked at him as a hindrance to his comfort zone. He went to his closet, picked up his shotgun, and shot his dog dead.
The man then jumped back into his bed thinking of the comfort he will now have. After all, he thought to himself, The dog is now dead and cannot disturb me any longer.
As he was in his bed, sleeping comfortably, an armed man broke into the house and plunged a knife into him while he was sleeping, and killed him.
Had the man taken the time to investigate his dog’s barking, it would have saved his life.
The dog resembles your conscience, and the robber resembles sin at your door (Read John 10:10).
Matthew 23:34-38 says:
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
It’s time to realize that we can’t shoot the messenger, because he is only waking us up! What is he waking us from? The impending danger!
John 16:8 says:
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
