You Reap What You Sow - And So Do Others!

Here’s a little story from the book Sowing and Reaping by D.L. Moody:

A father started for his office early one morning, after a light snowfall.  Turning, he saw his two-year old boy endeavoring to put his tiny feet in his own great footprints.  The little fellow shouted: “Go on, I’se comin’, Papa, I’se comin’ yight in ure tracks.”  He caught the boy in his arms and carried him to his mother, and started again for his office.  His habit had been to stop on the way at a bar for a glass of liquor. As he stood upon the threshold that morning he seemed to hear a sweet voice say: “Go on, I’se comin’, Papa, I’se comin’ yight in ure tracks.”  He stopped, he hesitated, he looked the future squarely in the face.  “I cannot afford to make any tracks I would be ashamed or sorry to have my boy walk in,” he said decidedly and walked away.

Have you ever wondered what kind of things you do in your life that can affect the decision another makes?  Many times we don’t think about how our choices have consequences and that they affect the ones around us.  When we do high school assemblies or when we are out on the streets, we oftentimes hear of another suicide, or a drug overdose.  When you get to the reason of it, you find out, for the most part, that it was for attention. If you think about it, when they are gone, they no longer have the attention that they were looking for.  By the way, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.  Life is always a fight, so don’t get discouraged - just keep on fighting.

Back to my point: In life, we do things to expect results.  When you work, you expect a paycheck.  When you get hungry, you eat to get full. But when you do wrong, why is it that it is always done in secret? Your answer would be, “So I don't get caught.” This is called your conscience. The Bible says that God wrote His law in our hearts, and that our conscience bears witness to it (Romans 2:15), which is why you feel conviction sometimes.   But if you did something good or honorable, you would want everyone to see.  Luke 12:2 says, “For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.” Every thing you do in life has a consequence, whether good or bad.  This is where you need to “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). The Bible also says, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh, shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting” (Galatians 6:7-8).  Be sure that your field is clean before God, and ask Him to direct you in the choices you make, because they will come back to you.

In short, you WILL reap, in most cases, MORE than you sow.  If not, then how does one little acorn make such a huge oak tree?  Think about it.
